Produksi

Pada musim panas 1899, Georges Méliès dan keluarganya berlibur ke pantai Normandy. Saat liburan, Méliès membuat tiga film aktualitas pendek: Bird's-Eye View of St. Helier (Jersey), Steamer Entering the Harbor of Jersey, dan Passengers Landing at Harbor of Granville. Ia juga merekam laut terbuka untuk dua film fiksi: Neptune and Amphitrite dan Christ Walking on the Water.^[2]

Christ Walking on the Water berdasarkan pada cerita yang disebutkan dalam Markus 6:45–52.^[3] Film tersebut adalah film kedua Méliès bertema agama; yang pertama adalah The Temptation of Saint Anthony, yang dibuat setahun sebelumnya.^[4]
