Eternal Father, Strong to Save è un inno associato alla Royal Navy, alla Marina degli Stati Uniti e agli United States Marine Corps. Di conseguenza, è spesso conosciuto come il Royal Navy Hymn (Inno della Marina Reale) o United States Navy Hymn Inno della Marina degli Stati Uniti (The Hymn Navy). Storia:

L'inno originale è stato scritto da William Whiting di Winchester, in Inghilterra, nel 1860. È stato originariamente concepito come una poesia per un suo allievo, che stava per recarsi negli Stati Uniti. Nel 1861, John B. Dykes, un pastore anglicano, compose il brano "Melita" per questo inno. "Melita" è un termine arcaico per Malta, un antico popolo marinaro e il sito di un naufragio che coinvolge l'apostolo Paolo menzionato negli Atti degli Apostoli (capitoli 27-28).

Alcuni versi sono stati modificati in inni moderni per vari motivi. Il primo verso si riferisce al Dio Padre che vieta le acque per inondare la terra, come descritto nel Salmo 104. La seconda strofa si riferisce a miracoli di Gesù 'di calmare una tempesta e camminare sulle acque del Mar di Galilea. I riferimenti terza strofa dello Spirito Santo ruolo nella creazione della terra nel Libro della Genesi, mentre il verso finale è un riferimento al Salmo 107.

Versione dell'US Episcopal Church: Nel 1940, la Chiesa Episcopale degli Stati Uniti alterati tre versi dell'inno di includere lo spostamento del terreno nella seconda strofa (riferimento Salmo 50) e in aria nella terza strofa (di nuovo riferimento Genesis). Veterani risalenti alla Seconda Guerra Mondiale cantano "Armed Forces Hymn" presso i servizi della Chiesa negli Stati Uniti e all'estero. L'inno era una versione modificata dell'originale inno Navy "Padre Eterno forte da salvare". Con i suoi splendidi versi significativi e forte appello per la protezione, evocava una forte risposta emotiva da quelli cantare l'inno. Mentre si prepara un servizio funebre per il suo amico, il colonnello Delbert Townsend, un paracadutista pluridecorato, il colonnello John Kormann resi conto che ci sono stati ulteriori adattamenti per l'inno di base.
