Bell hooks

bell hooks [sic] (rođena 25.9. 1952. kao Gloria Jean Watkins - 2021) je međunarodno poznata intelektualka, feministkinja, društvena aktivistkinja afro-američkog porekla. Hooks svoj pseudonim uvek piše malim slovima kao tribut svojoj baki po majci i da bi usmerila pažnju na svoj rad pre nego sebe kao ličnost. Njen rad je zasnovan na vezi između rase, klase i pola i borbi sa sistemom represije i dominacije (eng. intersectionality). Objavila je preko trideset knjiga i puno akademskih i običnih članaka. Pojavljuje se u dokumentarnim filmovima i drzi serije javnih predavanja..

Rođena je u Hopkinsville, Kentucky-u - gradu u kome je postojala rasna segregacija, u siromašnoj porodici radničke klase. Diplomirala je osnovne studije na Stanford Univerzitetu 1973 godine, a master studije engleskoge kniževnosti na univerzitetu Wisconsin-Madison 1976 godine. Doktorske studije je završila 1983 na univerzitetu California-Santa Cruz baveći se temom rada poznate spisateljice Toni Morrison.
