Sally Rooney

Sally Rooney (Castlebar, 20 febbraio 1991) è una scrittrice, poetessa e saggista irlandese.

Pur avendo al proprio attivo poche opere letterarie, viene acclamata dal pubblico e dalla critica come una delle migliori scrittrici della sua generazione, già a partire dalla pubblicazione del suo secondo romanzo.[1][2][3]

Biografia

Rooney è nata nel 1991 a Castlebar, dall'insegnante di matematica e scienze Marie Farrell e dal tecnico per le telecomunicazioni Kieran Rooney[4]. Ha trascorso la sua infanzia nella cittadina natia, dove vive e lavora ancora oggi, dopo aver studiato a Dublino[5], dove si è laureata in Letteratura Inglese presso il Trinity College. Presso la stessa Università, è stata inserita nella lista degli accademici più illustri, venendo nominata "scholar". Nella stessa istituzione accademica ha iniziato un master in Politica, che però non ha terminato. Ha invece completato un master in Letteratura Americana, laureandosi nel 2013.

è stata lanciata dall'editore come la "Salinger della generazione Snapchat"[6], ha esordito nella narrativa nel 2017 con il romanzo Parlarne tra amici sui complicati rapporti tra 4 persone: le studentesse Frances e Bobbi e la coppia di sposi Melissa e Nick[7].

L'anno seguente ha dato alle stampe Persone normali, pubblicato da Faber and Faber. Il romanzo segue il complicato rapporto tra Connell e Marianne dalla scuola superiore agli anni universitari[8] e ha ottenuto il premio per il miglior romanzo ai Costa Book Awards[9] e la trasposizione in serie televisiva nel 2020[10].
